001 Clone Chaos
[A: Lounge - Abel and Cain]
[Cain and Abel have been left alone, smaller brother still clinging to the taller one like a limpet. He knows he should let go, but this is so confusing and there is an ache in his chest that says all is not right between them. It's wrong to see his brother and not look into an identical face (albeit set in a scowl), it's wrong to see distress and grief in his eyes when they meet, and he wants it to go back to how it should be.]
...
[B: Kitchen - Rachel, Esther and Nanako]
[Having left the two failures alone the three girls have adjourned to the kitchen, where everything is set up and ready for the perfect mother to cook and clean for her family.
Or something like that.]
[C: Phone - Open to All]
[Some time later, after the emotional rollercoaster of that talk with Abel and still somewhat shell-shocked, Cain has come to himself enough for it to sink in there were others trapped here like them, and if they are all going to be working together then they needed to get acquainted. So there's a young boy's voice over the telephone, sounding calm and friendly. It's just a shame the background noise is less soothing.]
Ah-- Good evening, people of Mayfield. My name is Cain Knightlord and I've just arrived, along with most of the others in this house. Miss Alucard was already here; but the other new people are Abel Nightroad, Esther... [He didn't get her last name, so there's a small awkward pause.] ...and Nanako Dojima. I won't bore you with questions, Miss Alucard has been kind enough to explain most of what we need to know, but--
[What he says next is lost, as there comes a feminine screech from the kitchen, ranting something about 'housewives' and 'lazy priests making their own breakfast'. There's a crash of something heavy and squawk, before finally Cain's voice is audible again.]
--so I'm sure you'll agree with me. If it's not too much trouble, we'd love to get to know you all in return, so please don't be strangers.
[ooc: Part C is open to all and might be responded to by everyone in the house (Cain, Abel, Esther, Nanako and Rachel.]

I'd remember something like that, right? My big brother disappearing to a strange town with a big me. [he taps his nose gently.] So I think it's safe to say... that you'll be back before he can miss you. [he hopes...]
no subject
Clearly you don't remember little you, if you think he won't already have missed me.

[so cute, Cain. ;;]

[So many issues left unsaid, so many things left to discuss; but both have the worst coping mechanism ever. So it's time to make jokes and sweep the situation under the rug, obviously.]
no subject
...yes, best coping mechanisms ever.
he pulls him into another squeezey-hug.]
...Munchkin. Munchkin-munchkin-munchkin.
no subject
[It's a half-hearted grumble, though, as his arms come around Abel in return. If his brother thinks he gets to take on the role of the elder just because he LOOKS older, he's got another thing coming.
Cain will always be the big brother, he'll always watch out for Abel as he's cared for in return. A partnership, equal.]
no subject
...Really? Well that's embarrassing...
no subject
Why does it feel so much like Abel is wounded inside, a deep and consuming pain... it made him want to cling and never let go, for fear of losing him.]

[he settles his cheek atop his head, voice quiet. he wishes he could make it better, but his brother is... a walking secret. secret kept from people like the redhaired girl in the next room with the children. gotta... have this awkward talk ;(]
no subject
Yes?
no subject
[he shifts a little further, so that blue eyes could meet blue. he looks apologetic, guilty. ;(]
...we have to be quiet about... the UNASF, and being... clones. [words he hasn't let leave his lips in so long, it doesn't seem real.]
no subject
[He doesn't understand, that's like asking him to hide every part of his life until this day. Where was he supposed to say he had been, if he wasn't even allowed to mention the UNASF?]
no subject
there's a soft frown of consternation at his brow.]
...Right now, I don't know how safe it is... or how well it'll go over in a place like this. [that at least, was true.] We have to keep what little cards we have close to our chests, okay?
no subject
[He pulls back enough to look into Abel's face, something confused and a little guarded in his eyes.]
What will I say if people ask about my home, or my life? I know you want to protect me, but cutting out the UNASF is cutting out everything.
no subject
...Be vague. You don't need to give details.
The less they know, the better it'll be... until we find out more about what's going on here. [he absolutely doesn't want either of them to end up... puppets, tools again. 'United States, 1950's' wasn't very reassuring on that point.]
no subject
...Alright, if that's what you want.
[Abel will tell him what's going on in time, he has faith in that. Until then he could hide everything about himself, he was well practised at obfuscation anyway.]
no subject
...alas.
he gives a tiny nod of his head.]
...It'll be okay.
no subject
--shame he had no way of knowing just how bad Abel was at seeing others' pain, or what would become of it.]
...
no subject
It will. You're-- my brother, big or little or anything in between, right? So...
[h... ha; he is starting to wonder if that's really sunk in himself.]
no subject
[He paused, shaking his head where it was pressed against Abel's, fingers fidgeting with the sleeve of his pajamas.]
So why do you want to hide everything about me? Are you ashamed?
1/2
he looks... shocked, for a moment. what...? ashamed, of...]
no subject
[b-bro ;;
he quickly reaches up to cup his cheeks again, shaking his head vehemently and paling a bit at the prospect. Abel was hardly ashamed of-- Cain. the real... Cain. this little boy, who was easy to differentiate from the monster who wore his face later in life.]
...No. It isn't... like that at all, Cain. Not at all...
no subject
[He can see Abel is telling the truth, the vehemence of his reply was enough to tell that.]
It can't be that it's not safe; the UNASF are world-renowned, it's not like we'd be hiding anything people don't already know.
no subject
We age slower, and... appearances are deceiving. [it's not wholly a lie...] It's been a long time since those days. The world has changed...
