001 Clone Chaos
[A: Lounge - Abel and Cain]
[Cain and Abel have been left alone, smaller brother still clinging to the taller one like a limpet. He knows he should let go, but this is so confusing and there is an ache in his chest that says all is not right between them. It's wrong to see his brother and not look into an identical face (albeit set in a scowl), it's wrong to see distress and grief in his eyes when they meet, and he wants it to go back to how it should be.]
...
[B: Kitchen - Rachel, Esther and Nanako]
[Having left the two failures alone the three girls have adjourned to the kitchen, where everything is set up and ready for the perfect mother to cook and clean for her family.
Or something like that.]
[C: Phone - Open to All]
[Some time later, after the emotional rollercoaster of that talk with Abel and still somewhat shell-shocked, Cain has come to himself enough for it to sink in there were others trapped here like them, and if they are all going to be working together then they needed to get acquainted. So there's a young boy's voice over the telephone, sounding calm and friendly. It's just a shame the background noise is less soothing.]
Ah-- Good evening, people of Mayfield. My name is Cain Knightlord and I've just arrived, along with most of the others in this house. Miss Alucard was already here; but the other new people are Abel Nightroad, Esther... [He didn't get her last name, so there's a small awkward pause.] ...and Nanako Dojima. I won't bore you with questions, Miss Alucard has been kind enough to explain most of what we need to know, but--
[What he says next is lost, as there comes a feminine screech from the kitchen, ranting something about 'housewives' and 'lazy priests making their own breakfast'. There's a crash of something heavy and squawk, before finally Cain's voice is audible again.]
--so I'm sure you'll agree with me. If it's not too much trouble, we'd love to get to know you all in return, so please don't be strangers.
[ooc: Part C is open to all and might be responded to by everyone in the house (Cain, Abel, Esther, Nanako and Rachel.]

:3 ~ ♥
[Her ears flick back as she thinks, making a quiet and rather canine sound as she does before she speaks up again.]
Although I'm not sure what we'd do if there's someone who wants to stay.

[It wasn't a judgemental question, he could see the appeal in it himself... sort of.]

Kind of hard to do that here, despite the setting.

I'm sure you'll know the right choice for you when the time comes.

[The huffing sound she makes is good-natured and almost like she's laughing a little at herself.]

That doesn't sound very encouraging.

[She tries not to think of everything she saw when she had her run-in with the drugged milk.]
The 'pleasant 1950's American Dream town' is a huge cover-up for something much worse, it just hardly shows it half the time.

Can you tell me more, please? Anything you know would be helpful.

You'll want to pass this on to everyone in the house if they're new, because this place can, and does, get really dangerous on a regular basis from what I've seen and been told.
This whole town seems to be a social and medical experiment by a scientist, and I don't remember his name but he's currently 'droned' himself in the body of a young girl. At least once a month everything goes completely haywire around here; the milk left by the milkman being poisoned, the police dragging people in for interrogation, it seems like it's not a big deal at first. People get droned--brainwashed into behaving like what the people running this town consider a model citizen--and don't remember anything about who they are aside from what their role in this town is. Sometimes when they get droned they turn on people who the town thinks needs punishing which is anyone who isn't following the town's rules.
That's when the violence breaks out. It's when things like that happen, or we're forced into fighting each other. I'm a little foggy on the details since I'm really new around here though.

Another experiment.
It almost made him laugh, and this time without humour, but he kept it hidden inside and gave away nothing of his own feelings on the matter.]
...thank you, that's... really helpful.

[She sounds so sadly resigned to her fate here, but she's sincere in her regret. No one should be forced through things like this. Even if she's slowly growing used to her life being a complete disaster.]

[Then, said with the perfect self-confidence of a child:]
I'm already ten, you know.

[She huffs a laugh, her tail wagging and batting at the couch cushions.]
You're already the man of the house, then!
no subject
Maybe not, but I'm old enough to help out.
no subject
A few years and you'll be a proper gentleman with that attitude.
[Sob Mika if you only knew who you were talking to.]

I'll do my best!

I'll hold you to that!

Will do, then.
