003 Falling Leaves

[Phone and Action (Albright Lane) Open to all]

[Cain is outside his house, raking the red and golden leaves that have fallen into a large pile, he has pulled the phone out of the door with him as far as the cable will stretch, holding rake in one hand and balancing the phone awkwardly in the other as he works.]

Falling leaves are so strange, it's sad in a way because it's like the trees are dying. But they're not really, they're just going into hibernation for the winter. And the leaves fill other purposes too; they make a mulch that feeds the ground when there's not much else there, they give materials for animals to make warm places to stay in the cold, and...

[There's a pause, as a grin breaks out over his face and he drops the rake on the lawn.]

...they're perfect for jumping in! YAHOOOOO!

[And suddenly there's scattered leaves all over the lawn again, as Cain rolls over laughing. This place and the situation may not be the ideal, but he was an optimist by nature and he had never had the chance to roll in leaves before, he's damned if he'll waste the opportunity now.]

I hope some of you will come to join me, or tell me about other fun things to do in this season! What are your favourite ways to pass the time? Now that I have the opportunity, I'd love to try them all out.

Sure, sure. [ He still thinks he's a bit too old, but.. ] I'll come over in a little bit.

[ And, true to his word, Mikiya is at the address about ten minutes later or so. When he spots Cain with the leaves, he gives a little nod as he walks the last few steps over.

[ action forever! ]

[kinship]

[Standing up to pile them all up again, he grins over at the newcomer.]

Hi, you came quickly!

[normality]

It would have been pretty rude to make you wait, right?

[ Amicable as ever, he has a tiny smile on his face as he looks at the pile. ] It wasn't that much effort either way.

[kinship]

I'm Cain, by the way, it's great to meet you.

[Shifting his rake into one hand, he holds out the other to shake with a friendly smile.]

[normality]

[ Of course he grabs his hand, shaking it a little as the tiny smile doesn't disappear off his face. ]

Mikiya. Mikiya Kokutou-- in western order, that is. [ 'Cain' is not a very Japanese name after all. ] It's very nice to meet you as well.

[Not Japanese at all, in fact Cain has a slightly German accent.]

Cain Knightlord, if we're being so formal. But I hope we can be friends, so just Cain is okay, Mikiya.

[ Mikiya keeps meeting people with German accents, it's destiny.. ]

Well, I just figured it was only proper to introduce myself with my last name too.. But I wouldn't mind making some friends here. It sounds like the kind of place where someone could use some.

I think you can use friends wherever you are.

[He hopes Mikiya doesn't mind that he's younger, he'll still be a loyal friend.]

And here maybe more than others, so lets agree to be friends, okay?

I can't deny that much. It's just that this place is a little more extreme, so it even becomes nicer to have people to rely on to make things a bit better, right?

[ a slight nod. ] If you ever need help, feel free to ask me.

[ Since he's very good at taking other people's troubles upon himself and generally getting himself in trouble because of it.. ]

[His smile becomes extra bright, and he reaches out to squeeze the hand of the older boy boldly.]

You can lean on me too, I'll help all I can.

[normality]

Ah, I'll be fine. [ He can't help but feel a bit happy at that smile as well - maybe it's a little bit of protectiveness too with the other boy being younger and all. ]

You just look after yourself.

[kinship]

Part of looking after yourself, is looking after the people you care about.

[He starts raking the leaves again, trying to make a giant pile that would git Mikiya in too.]

[normality]

Ah.. Yeah, that's true. I guess I'm a bit of a hypocrite for preaching about that, ahaha. [ a chuckle. ] I'm more concerned about the wellbeing of other people in this town than my own in the end.

[kinship]

It's always good to care about the wellbeing of others, it shows you have a big heart.

[normality]

It wouldn't say it's exactly a big heart.. [ A little bit awkward, since he's humble as always, but content all the same. ]

It's only natural to want to help out others, right?

[kinship]

I think so, but there's some people that don't think that at all.

[normality]

... Ah. You're right, not everyone thinks that most of the time, but.. I still can't help but feel like it's some natural feeling, you know? I'm sure that deep down even those people feel it, they just try to surpress it for one reason or another.

[kinship]

I believe that too, I don't think anyone can be truly inherently evil.

[Except he does, sort of, a tiny bitter twist inside him.]
